About Us & Our Culture

Barclays Capital is the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC. With a distinctive business model, Barclays Capital provides large corporate, government and institutional clients with a full spectrum of solutions to fulfil their strategic advisory, financing and risk management needs.

Barclays Capital has offices around the world, employs 25,000 people and has the global reach, advisory services and distribution power to meet the needs of issuers and investors worldwide.

Barclays Capital stands out from the rest of the street. We're the youngest of all the top tier investment banks but over the last 14 years we've grown to be amongst the very best.

Built on the 300 year heritage of Barclays, we've taken some of the pioneering spirit from those early days, added a group of entrepreneurial people who wanted to make a difference to their clients, and built a culture that was inclusive of all their talents.

Diversity & Inclusion

We are a global business and the challenges we face are many and diverse. Diversity is about how we get the right mix of people. Inclusion is about how we make that mix work.

We ask our people to challenge their assumptions, learn about different perspectives and appreciate the benefits diversity can offer us. Our people are ambitious and talented but it is only together, as a team, that we can be the best for our clients. At Barclays Capital, everyone is expected to work together to build a culture of inclusion.

Our employee networking groups are also helping to drive the change. Each group provides networking and development opportunities, and active community involvement. Currently Barclays Capital has employee networking groups that focus on: Women; Racial and cultural differences; Disability; Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues; and Working parents and families.
All of our people are encouraged to participate actively in changing our business, networking events, and recruiting and mentoring activities. We incorporate diversity into mainstream training - as part of our leadership programs, networking skills, team motivation and line management courses. And our appraisal program and other people processes are designed specifically to be inclusive.

Citizenship

We have a proud tradition of supporting and investing in the communities where we do business. Whether through volunteering, gift-matching, or donations, our diverse community programmes are designed to support and build on the work of our employees. They range from inspirational, small-scale projects in local communities to global charitable organisations which are notable for the breadth of their impact. We partner with high-performing and innovative not-for-profit organisations with strong management teams, sound strategy and a commitment to impact, measurement and evaluation.

Through our charitable efforts we have demonstrated our pledge to give back to our communities, and our passion for a diverse number of philanthropic initiatives. We are continuously advancing our core charitable themes - banking on brighter futures, looking after local communities and charity begins at work.

In 2010, Barclays invested £55.3 million in community projects worldwide, and supported the involvement of more than 62,000 colleagues in 37 countries.
