I am currently working in Human Resources as a Generalist for Asia Pacific Global Markets - Trading division, working closely with senior managers from Prime Services, Quantitative Analytics, Capital & Liquidity Management Group and Treasury.

Some of the key attributes in my opinion of an effective Human Resources Generalist are:

• Client Focus - Listening and pre-empting the needs of your clients so as to act as an effective HR support to the business
• Execution - Providing quality, accurate and timely delivery of assistance to the business
• Teamwork – Leveraging on the knowledge and expertise of colleagues from the Specialist functions to act as a focal point of contact for managers on a diverse range of HR matters.

I graduated from Singapore Management University (SMU) with a Bachelor degree in Business Management, majoring in Finance and Human Resources, during my time in university; I was the President of SMU Toastmasters club.

I embarked on my career in HR with Barclays Capital straight from university in 2009 after I applied and participated in the assessment centre as part of Barclays Capital Human Resources Graduate programme. The interviews with members from the HR senior management team in Singapore and case studies/presentations as part of the assessment centre, provided both an eye-opener to the realistic challenges faced by HR practitioners in Barclays Capital and a challenge to excel amidst healthy competition with my fellow peers.

As part of the Graduate programme in Barclays Capital, I rotated with three HR departments starting as a Generalist in the Infrastructure HR team; I then moved on to Compensation and Benefits and lastly, as a Generalist with the Front Office HR team. I highlighted my decision and was excited to be given the opportunity to join the Front Office HR team in my final placement (current role) as a Generalist supporting Asia Pacific Global Markets – Trading division.

I am excited in my current role and aim to continue with enhancing the HR experience/support provided to managers in the business.

My wife and I both enjoy reading and backpacking. Nothing beats having a relaxing day with a book in hand by the beach or pool when travelling.
