How we are organised
Finance has a global population of approximately 2,000 people, across 24 cities worldwide. It’s a global department made up of exceptionally talented colleagues. Finance people are empowered to make decisions, flexible, ready to think on their feet and overcome plenty of challenges.
Our Finance professionals work in teams within five core functions:
Product Control
Understanding, substantiating and controlling the daily trading balance sheet and income statement for Barclays Capital. Product Control is vital to our independent reporting and control infrastructure and plays a fundamental role in the controlled growth of Barclays Capital.
•The production of a comprehensive daily trading P&L and balance sheet
•The execution of regular independent price verification, ensuring that the appropriate accounting principles are applied
•Partnering with the firm’s business areas and other support groups in facilitating new products and initiatives
•Developing and reporting management accounting information
Financial Control
Ensuring that Barclays Capital fulfils its external financial reporting requirements, including statutory accounts, capital adequacy reporting, large exposures reporting and statistical reporting.
•Monthly, quarterly and annual management and statutory reporting
•Regulatory returns to the FSA, the Bank of England and other regulatory bodies, ensuring the appropriate control framework is in place
•Setting and monitoring of compliance with accounting, regulatory and balance sheet control policy
•Technical accounting and regulatory policy advice within Barclays Capital and reviewing accounting issues with its clients
•Control of all non-trade related balance sheet accounts
•The primary interface with our auditors and regulators
Tax
Managing Barclays Capital’s tax position and providing tax support and advice to all business areas.
•Developing tax-efficient group-wide structures to help maximise returns for shareholders within the overall strategies for both Barclays Capital and Group
•Controlling tax risk and supporting the businesses, including Front Office, by advising on tax issues
•Ensuring compliance with tax obligations in all relevant jurisdictions and managing relationships with those tax authorities and other government and tax-policy officials
•Delivering accurate and timely reporting and disclosure of all tax-related financial information, including forecasting
Financial Decision Support
Enabling and supporting all financial decisions within the firm, through quality data and partnership with key strategic decision makers. This covers revenues, costs, balance sheet/capital and client franchise performance. The team is also responsible for processing the firm’s invoices and expenses, leading the annual budgeting process and interfacing with Group on financial performance.
Chief Operating Office
Supporting both the strategy and day-to-day operations of Finance. This includes resource and budget management, setting communication standards and strategy, and business administration.
